The civil cases against Dr. Derrick Todd became public knowledge when hundreds of alleged victims began to take action against the highly respected rheumatologist in the eastern United States who they claim sexually abused them during physical examinations at medical appointments.

The description of the encounters not only sound abusive but also highly coercive. Patients are alleging that the abuse can be documented back to 2011 and as recent as July of 2023. The allegations claim they endured sexual abuse during physical exams that they would later learn were not required exams, all for the alleged sexual satisfaction of the doctor. Among the allegations is a tone of coercion, medical isolation, and manipulative suggestions to his patients that seemingly would assist him to continue abusing patients.

Several medical facilities are included as defendants for seemingly allowing the behavior by not adhering to proper management and oversight policies that could have prevented the abuse against Dr. Todd’s patients, including  exams on patients that he is not authorized or trained to perform.

Charles River Medical Associates, The Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Mass General Brigham are among the many defendants listed in the lawsuit. Brigham and Women’s listed the doctor as a section chief and instructor.

An internal investigation was launched against Dr. Derrick Todd in July of 2023 by The Massachusetts Board of registration in Medicine. Less than one month after the investigation began, Dr. Todd agreed to resign. By September Dr. Todd also agreed to stop practicing medicine anywhere in the country. While it is unconfirmed publicly, it is believed that patients are sharing information with law enforcement. The claims made against Dr. Derrick Todd are currently allegations that are still being carried out in court proceedings, no criminal charges have been filed against Dr. Todd. We will update this information as changes are made to the pending civil cases and any criminal charges if they arise.
