BRIEF
The forensic ninja’s at Othram’s DNA lab joined the search that puzzled the Orange County Sheriff’s Office since 1993. A discovery of partial human remains on an Orlando farm was all the information they had and thirty years after the discovery they turned over the information to Othram.
The first step in the process was to create DNA profile from the remains. Once the profile is developed, genetic genealogy can steer law enforcement in the right direction of who the DNA profile might belong to. The combined effort of Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Othram were able to identify the remains as a man named Richard Wick with connections to New York.
The next step? The rest of the story. Who is responsible for Richard’s death? And what was going on during the time leading up to his death?
If you knew Richard Wick or have information about him, please contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit at (407)836-4357.

The forensic lab at Othram performed a genetic DNA profile of the remains in order to track down Richard Wick's family and ultimately identify him 30 years after his remains were discovered.
The skeletal remains found more than thirty years ago in Orange County were recently identified, deputies said. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the remains to be that of 48-year-old Richard Wick.
The skeletal remains of a homicide victim found near Apopka in 1993 were recently identified and have assisted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in moving one step closer to solving the 30-year-old cold case.
DNA Solves, operated by Othram’s forensic lab, funds cases that need forensic testing to gain additional information about the person and/or the crime.
