Texas: Travis County DA hopeful and Jessika for Justice discuss Austin's forgotten victims
DA CANDIDATE DANIEL BETTS
Travis County, Texas
Daniel Betts is running for District Attorney
The city of Austin, Texas has been a focal point for the entire country as the city has become a major attraction for musicians, artists, and entrepreneurs. But can they maintain the environment that has become an attraction nationwide?
Forgotten victims of violent crimes in Travis County are not merely upset because their case did not receive justice. The reality appears much darker than a lack of evidence, the concern is that violent crime is not being properly investigated and prosecuted when there is sufficient evidence.
Daniel Betts has listed a few specific priorities that he would like to address in Austin as he is a candidate for district attorney:
- Partner with law enforcement
- More jury trials
- Take politics out of prosecuting
- Expedite cases
- Lower Crime
The Mourning Feed does not endorse political candidates. We feel it is important to provide accurate information to crime victims in order to make the right choice in local elections. During election cycles the primary focus is ultimately on the presidential candidates, we feel it is vital to be informed about local elections that directly effect the everyday lives in the citizens who live there. It is vital to pay close attention the individuals who we trust to properly apply the law when necessary. Candidates who are more interested in protecting criminals than seeking truth and justice can inflict harm on their local communities by allowing violent crime to spiral.
The case listed below that mentions Trevon Fox was dismissed for alleged lack of evidence, the suspect was later charged with the murder of Jonathan Rogers after being released. The case against the suspect in relation to Jonathan was also dismissed.
DA hopeful Daniel Betts joined Jessika for Justice to discuss the forgotten victims and the current election. We encourage Travis County residents to watch this episode as public safety appears to be in a crisis in Austin, Texas. There are too many developing situations in Travis County to leave it in incapable hands. The community of Austin cannot continue to thrive if violent crime continues to spiral.
TIMELINE
Austin, Texas news agencies are seeking the details about $115,000 that was approved for José Garza's "security enhancements" without much success,
Travis County has not released the documents related to the approval of funds despite the fact that the Attorney General found that the public has a right to this information.
A Travis County resident filed a petition against District Attorney José Garza after being sexually assaulted in Travis County and facing the grim reality that the DA's office would be unwilling to prosecute the suspect.
The petition asked for an investigation into the DA's office after evidence was allegedly destroyed and direct evidence of the crime was ignored. The petition was met with a political response, claiming that the petition was filed by "a republican" along with other defamatory statements of conspiracy and unfounded claims against the victim turned activist.

The suspect is allegedly the same man who took the life of Trevon Darnell Fox in 2017. Deandre Eric Conner was arrested and charged with Jonathan's murder in December of 2021.
Despite the public trying to assist law enforcement by providing them evidence of who committed the murder, the charges were dismissed.
In March of 2017 Trevon was shot near Thermal Drive.
By March 17, just a day after the shooting, the suspect was identified as being Deandre Eric Conner and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Conner was given a $104,000 bond after turning himself in.
It seemed as if justice would be delivered to Trevon and his family. In August of 2017, Trevon's family was watching closely to ensure they did not miss any court dates for the suspect when they were shocked to see that no more court dates were on the docket for the suspect. They contacted the court and were told that the case was dismissed in July of 2017 without anyone contacting the family.
